Our established training program is in place to meet technicians where they are, meaning there is a place for everyone to start! With formal lectures, skills labs, and cage side training, we help all technicians expand their skills and knowledge in positions in the emergency service, intensive care unit, and specialty departments depending on their interests. Some of the advanced skills that techs can aim to learn and utilize include NG tube placement, central line placement, mechanical ventilation monitoring, transfusion therapies, etc. Our ICU has wireless EKG units, Snyder oxygen cages, mechanical ventilator, portable ultrasound, defibrillator, as well as an in-hospital blood donor program. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Deliver exceptional, compassionate nursing care to patients utilizing a variety of technical skills, including diagnostic sample collection, catheter placement, venipuncture, radiography, emergency triage, and in-patient care for critical patients, including exemplary comfort care
- Be a crucial member of the healthcare team to ensure exceptional veterinary care for patients experiencing medical emergencies as well as those patients admitted to the hospital
- Advocate for patients, and clients, answer client’s questions and address their concerns; readily demonstrate empathy for clients in stressful and emotionally driven moments
- Assist with emergency procedures and surgeries, including anesthetic induction and monitoring, pre and post operative patient care
- Obtain health history from clients and ensure documentation is accurate and complete within the electronic medical record
- Willingness to guide, mentor, and support fellow team members
- These positions require some evening, weekend, and holiday shifts
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years’ professional experience in small animal clinical setting as a technician/assistant
- Excellent communication skills with clients and team members
- Proficient time management, ability to problem solve, learn, and handle multiple tasks
- Enthusiastic team player with a patient, and positive professional attitude
- Must have the ability to adjust to changes in the environment and able to handle stress in a calm manner
- Must be able to anticipate patient needs and be detail oriented due to the high level of quality medicine
- Must be able to lift and restrain pets of at least 40 pounds, and work on feet most of the day

- Starting wage for non-credentialed technicians range from $20 to $30 per hour (varies based on formal education, previous professional experience, and current skills/knowledge).
- Starting wage for Certified technicians range from $22 to $32 per hour (varies based on formal education, previous professional experience, and current skills/knowledge).
- Starting wage for certified Veterinary Technician Specialty (VTS) ranges from $29 to $37 (varies based on formal education, previous professional experience, and current skills/knowledge).
- $5 per hour shift differential for all 2nd and 3rd shift hours worked after 8pm

OSVS is located in East Greenwich, RI. OSVS is a 35,000-sf building with a very busy emergency service, a nationally respected internship and residency program, and specialists in emergency/critical care, internal medicine, surgery, radiology, cardiology, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, and avian/exotics. Specialized equipment includes telemetry, endoscopy, CT scanner, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and MRI.
