Position Overview

As the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Nurse Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of our nursing staff, ensuring that exceptional patient care standards are consistently met. You will work closely with board-certified specialists and other veterinary professionals to create a cohesive, supportive team focused on delivering outstanding care in emergency and critical care settings. This position offers the unique opportunity to utilize your full range of technical skills while also nurturing the growth and development of your team.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership & Team Management:
    • Oversee, mentor, and support a team of veterinary nurses, ensuring smooth and efficient operations across all shifts
    • Develop and maintain staff schedules to ensure optimal 24/7 coverage while balancing PTO requests and staff wellbeing
    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback, fostering a positive and professional environment
    • Lead team meetings, set performance expectations, and address team dynamics to maintain a high-functioning unit
    • Handle conflict resolution and manage staff morale in a high-pressure environment
  • Patient Care & Technical Expertise:
    • Actively participate in patient care, setting the standard for nursing excellence
    • Assist in developing and implementing protocols that enhance patient outcomes and optimize workflow efficiency
    • Utilize your technical expertise to train and upskill team members, pushing the boundaries of their practice and knowledge within the limits of their licenses
  • On-Call & Emergency Support:
    • Participate in on-call responsibilities as needed, providing support during high-volume periods or critical cases
    • Be a resource for the team in handling complex or emergent situations and step in to provide leadership and guidance
Qualifications:
  • CVT, RVT, or LVT certification preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of emergency and critical care experience in a veterinary setting
  • Proven leadership experience in managing, training, and developing a veterinary nursing team
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to inspire and lead a diverse team while maintaining a positive and professional attitude
  • Ability to lift and restrain animals up to 50 lbs and spend extended periods on your feet
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, especially in high-pressure situations
  • A passion for continuous learning and staff development
