Practice Overview
Scituate Animal Hospital is a privately owned, full-service, small animal hospital. We have been living out our motto of being “your other family doctor” in our rural community since 1969. Our team takes a collaborative approach and treats not only one another like family but also each patient and their owner too. We are committed to providing top-notch preventative, wellness, and general surgical care to each patient we treat. In 2017, we renovated our hospital to not only expand our space, but to update our equipment to be the best on the market too.

What You’ll Be Working On

  • Ability to perform all duties of a veterinary technician as outlined in our hospital job description including, but not limited to outpatient and inpatient care and treatment, performing laboratory test, record keeping, dispensing medication and client communication.
  • Responsible for keeping the technical SOP manual up to date and providing on-the-job training for new technical staff in accordance with hospital guidelines. Schedule and lead monthly technical staff meetings.
  • Review technical staff applications, screen applicants, check references and provide input on final candidates.
  • Create employee schedules that align with doctor and team needs while monitoring overtime. Make arrangements to cover shifts by either seeking coverage by technical team or covering shifts yourself.
  • Help make decisions regarding time off requests and keeps track of employee time off and schedule changes on the staff calendar.
  • Handle performance evaluations for all technical staff, initial 90 day, annual, and performance counseling as needs arise individually.
  • Provide disciplinary action as needed with technical staff accordingly to hospital policies.
  • Oversees equipment maintenance and ensuring that it is completed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or CVT certification
  • Previous veterinary technician experience is required.
  • Proficiency in veterinary knowledge and technical skills is required.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and multitasking abilities.
