Are you the kind of tech who can tell ten black cats apart by their purrs alone? Do you light up at the sight of an elderly tabby curling up for meds like itās a spa treatment? If so, you might be the missing piece of our feline sanctuary family.
Weāre looking for a skilled Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or experienced veterinary nurse with a heart for geriatric cat care. This position involves medication administration, observation for illness, light cleaning, grooming, and assisting in maintaining a serene and loving environment for a clowder of deeply spoiled, deeply loved catsāmany of whom are over the age of 15.
Youāll be joining a small, close-knit team with over 30 years of combined experience in feline care. We are passionate, detail-oriented, and bonded by our love for cats. The sanctuaryās owner, Susan, has been caring for community and feral cats for nearly five decades, offering them a second life filled with comfort, healing, and high-quality care. Her home, located on Warwick Neck, is a private residenceābut donāt be fooled: these cats are among the best cared for in the state, often living to 17 or 18 years thanks to her devotion.
Shifts: Minimum of one morning/week (9ā12 AM, but flexible) and 1ā2 evening shifts/month (7ā9 PM). More hours may be available to cover vacations.
Pay: Starts at a training rate with a range from $15ā$24/hour depending on experience and responsibilities.
Duties include:
Administering oral, injectable and topical medications
Recognizing and documenting health or behavior changes
Light cleaning and prep work (picking up dishes, preparing meds)
Grooming (brushing, nail trims)
Compassionate, calm handling of older and under-socialized cats
Training will be hands-on alongside experienced staff including the sanctuary manager, with eventual independence on select shifts. Youāll never be thrown into the deep end unprepared.
This isnāt your typical clinic gig. Itās quieter, slower, deeply rewarding, and often emotional. The cats know when someoneās caring for themāand over time, theyāll show you their gratitude in ways that will break and rebuild your heart.
While the sanctuary is a peaceful haven for the cats, it is still someone's home, and we strive to respect both privacy and the sensitive nature of rescue work. Political neutrality is appreciatedāthis is a job for animal lovers, not debaters. Come ready to work with dignity, discretion, and a whole lot of love.
